The Second World War has always been important in education (history). Research (Bureau Veldkamp, Koenen & Jorritsma, 2014, commissioned by the Nationaal Comité 4 en 5 mei), has shown that many teachers attempt to connect the teaching of the Second World War with current news events.
It also appears that in addition to the compulsory curriculum, nearly all teachers (85%) pay extra attention to the Second World War. They do so with the aid of books, films and documentaries as well as visiting memorial centers, monuments or museums. Moreover, it is known that personal (war) stories virtually always have an impact.
A visit (with or without related project) to National Monument Kamp Amersfoort fits in perfectly with this form of “education through perception”. And naturally such a visit fits in perfectly with the core objectives and the History Canon.
Kamp Amersfoort projects and tours are suitable for pupils beginning with Groups 7 & 8.
