Roll call ground and Rose garden
The rose garden is a reminder of the infamous ‘rose garden’ of Kamp Amersfoort. The rose garden was a space, surrounded by barbed wire, next to the entrance gate and bordering on the roll call ground, where prisoners were kept temporarily. Today this rose garden is called “Silent Roll Call” (Stil Appèl). It is a quiet memorial ground enclosed by a yew hedge. The garden is a barren gravel plain. In the gravel are rose columns, lined up the same as the prisoners were lined up on the former roll call ground. Roses bloom next to some of the columns, along others barbed wire.
